I made a wish on a moonbeam,
I made a wish on the first night star,
I made a wish that you would be,
Near to me, not far.

You were surrounded with wings all a flutter,
First giggling and then heaving a sigh,
The colors around us were breathtaking,
When you met your first butterfly.

You are such a part of me,
I want to share every millisecond of your life,
Yes, I know you are all grown up now,
And, yes, I know you have a wife.

But on a rainy day such as this one,
I tend to reminisce,
About a time when your scraped knee,
Could be healed with a 'mommy kiss.'

You were ready for me to show you,
All the wonders the world had to see,
And the way you discovered each and every one,
Made the world more exciting for me.

And now as I sit here,
Many miles from where you are,
I wonder if you smile when you remember,
Our conversations in the car.

Do you remember the things I taught you?
Do you remember the songs on the radio?
Do you realize that you are still 'Mom's Hero,'
Oh, that is something I'm convinced you know.

The time does not pass, it dawdles,
When you are far away,
And when we are on the telephone,
I sometimes don't know what to say.

So I'll always wish on moonbeams,
And I'll always wish on the first night star,
That someday you'll move back to Florida,
And be near to me, not far.
